‘The Common Cause of Christendom: Crusading Rhetoric in Byzantine Diplomacy towards the West (12th-13th century)’
Using a wide variety of sources, Dr. Chrissos analyses the rhetoric applied by Constantinople to deal with the influx of crusaders from the West, as well as their wider implication for the Church (such as the granting of indulgences).
Nikolaos Chrissis has recently completed his PhD in Byzantine History at Royal Holloway University of London.
