Helmut Walser Smith: The Continuities of German History

21 July 2009 – Helmut Walser Smith’s most recent book has triggered a heated debate among German historians which is still in full swing today. Taking up the special path interpretation and giving it a new outlook by integrating cultural and transnational approaches, he sheds new light on the ‘long nineteenth century’.
