This is a response to Peter Osbourne’s thanks in which he suggests that Howard was a philosopher who for twenty years masqueraded as a sociologist. Well, thank goodness he did or I wouldn’t, as an undergraduate, have been able to enjoy the units ‘The Law, The State and Civil Society’ or ‘The Sociology of Art’.
