The idea of the ‘Big Society’ is at the centre of the Coalition’s reform agenda. In this debate, Maurice Glasman and Jesse Norman will discuss the historical antecedents of the idea, the current reforms taking place under its name, and the likelihood of its success or failure.

- Maurice Glasman is a Labour Peer and Senior Lecturer in Political Theory at London Metropolitan University. He is credited with the invention of the term ‘Blue Labour’.
- Jesse Norman is a Conservative MP and author of ‘The Big Society: The Anatomy of the New Politics’ (University of Buckingham Press, 2010).
