Birkbeck Department of Politics, 40th Anniversary Lecture Series
Europe’s Politics at Birkbeck
The event – which is meant to celebrate the study of Europe’s politics at Birkbeck – will take the form of a panel discussion (involving current and past members of staff as well as an alumnus) on Britain in Europe. The event is organised under the auspices of the Department’s MSc programme in European politics and policy. Professor Hussein Kassim (now at UEA) will speak about the impact of EU membership on Britain’s institutions, Dr Dionyssis G. Dimitrakopoulos will speak about the true nature of current Tory Euroscepticisim, Mr Roger Higman (alumnus of the MSc programme in European politics and former official of Friends of the Earth) will examine the impact of EU membership on the UK’s environmental policy, Dr Dermot Hodson on the UK’s withdrawal from the EU and Dr Edwin Bacon will examine the UK’s relations with Russia.
