Dr Harun Yilmaz (Oxford) – Red Batyrs of Kazakh Steppe:  Nation-building under Stalin

Harun Yilmaz holds his MSc. and PhD (2011) from the University of Oxford. He was a post-doc fellow at the Harvard Ukrainian Research Institute (2012). His doctoral research focused on the construction of national identities in Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan and Ukraine under Stalin (1936-1953). His forthcoming academic articles are on the Kurds of Azerbaijan, Kazakh nation building and Ukrainian ethno-genesis theory. He is currently working on his book manuscript “Nation Building Under Stalin” which is based on his doctoral dissertation.
