Professor Annette Kuhn (Emeritus Professor, Queen Mary, University of London) – Remembering Annie Hall

2017 marks the fortieth anniversary of Annie Hall, ‘nervous romance’ and winner of four Academy Awards – and enduringly memorable for its one-liners and quirky wardrobe choices. In the UK, the film’s release coincided with a flurry of activity around ‘film culture’: film theory was a battleground and film studies didn’t really exist as an academic subject. What happens when we take a look at what Annie Hall could have done for film studies then, and at what film studies might do for Annie Hall now?
