Pamela Sorensen – You Had to be There – Finding Meltzer on the Page

speaker_PamelaSorensenPamela Sorensen is a Child Psychotherapist and former Director of the Under Fives Center at the University of Virginia. She has been teaching in the United States since 1990. Her published papers focus on both theoretical and practical applications of Kleinian and post Kleinian theory. Her paper, You Had To Be There, Finding Meltzer On The Page, explores aspects of learning from Donald Meltzer in person and learning from his writing. It also identifies three areas of his work of particular clinical usefulness. References to the film “The Story of the Weeping Camel” will be used to illustrate ideas. Publications include: Thoughts on the containing process from the perspective of infant/mother in Developments in infant observation, Editor Sue Reid, Tavistock 1997. Changing positions: helping parents look through the child’s eyes
