A series of events examining the past and future of society and the environment

Round-table discussion: Coastal matters

With: Sue Brooks, Sunil Amrith, Alex Colas
Chair: Karen Wells

This expert panel will consider the interaction between the environmental history of coastlines, sea level rise, climate change and the containerisation of the world economy. A Birkbeck historian, a physical geographer and political scientist will discuss ways in which the economic geography of world trade is connected to environmental phenomena such as rising sea-levels and storminess, and how these in turn affect cross-border management and policy making under global climate change. The debates will be underpinned by examples of coastal change and management from the developed and developing world.
