A series of events examining the past and future of society and the environment
Round-table discussion: Researching violence with Margarita Palacios and Antoine Bousquet
Chair: Eric Kaufman
This expert panel will consider the multiple difficulties in researching violence. Joanna will explore this question in the context of the history of killing, wartime atrocities, and sexual violence. Margarita will discuss the symbolic processes of construction of otherness and the way violence expresses dynamics of desire and feminization of the other. Antoine will explore the differences and tensions between two modalities of violence with its instrumental goal-oriented deployments, on the one hand, and its expressive and existential manifestations, on the other.
