Giulia Palladini (Kunsthochschule Berlin-Weißensee) – Testing the Present, Delaying the future: on Work, Metrics and Value in Times of Crisis
The paper brings into the discussion some of the themes of my current twofold inquiry. First, I will focus on the ways in which we work, as artists and knowledge producers today, undertaking endless and sometime hardly understandable systems of external measurement, which constantly delay an access to the future for our career or our work. Second, I will think through structures and techniques of testing, measurement and assessment developed in the 1920s as experimental developments of industrial psychology and possible solutions to unemployment itself. I am interested in the tension between the present and the future at stake in such mechanisms of testing and assessment of capacity, and in interrogating their relation with the temporality of the crisis.
