The Birkbeck Institute for Social Research presents:

Dr Andreas Malm (Lund University) – Revolutions in a Warming World: Lessons from Syria

Will higher temperatures unleash revolutionary chaos? From the corridors of Pentagon to the pages of Science, such fears have grown in recent years. They now have an eminent test case: Syria, where the revolution was preceded by a devastating drought. With a focus on the Middle East and Syria in particular, this talk will discuss some possible configurations of revolution in a warming world and reflect on potential points of intervention.

The Population, Environment and Resources (PER) Working Group examines global connections between population, environment and resource dynamics and their links to politics.

Chair: Dr Alex Colas (Birkbeck)
